LEGENDARY SKIING in the Callaghan Valley at Journeyman Lodge

There is truth to the name "Solitude Glacier" and being located at the bottom of its North facing terminus, Journeyman Lodge stands alone surrounded by wide expanses of snow-covered mountain peaks! The place of legendary deep snow dumps and amazing tree skiing is only a few kms away from the hustle and bustle of the sea to sky corridor.

The reasons for the abundance of dry cold snow in the upper Callaghan valley is simple, winter storm systems move unobstructed through the Howe Sound only to collide with 7 kms of permanent ice field known as Powder Mountain before arriving at the Lodge, in the process cooling the air mass, promoting the formation of dry snow, and leaving a deep snow blanket in this wind protected microclimate environment. The result is an average annual snow base of 480 cm and epic powder skiing.

Prerequisites: Strong intermediate skier/boarder comfortable on single black runs and variable snow conditions. Good fitness level. No previous Backcountry experience required.

Agenda:

Meet at 8am at Callaghan Country Wilderness Base (at end of Callaghan Valley Road)

Day 1) Arrival at lodge around 10:00am, let’s go ski (bring your own lunch, après ski and dinner provided)

Day 2) 7am Breakfast, full ski day (to-go lunch, après ski and dinner provided)

Day 3) 7am Breakfast, full ski day (to-go lunch, après ski and dinner provided)

Day 4) 7am Breakfast, ski day till 2:00pm (to-go lunch provided), return to Callaghan base. Exit by 4pm

*use duffel bag or travel luggage for your lodge gear, bring snow boots, lodge shoes, soap and tooth paste and swim shorts. Bring your own Beer and Wine
